I tried adding them to the Window's Media Player, but you have to have the DVD inserted for the files to play.

The "rip" feature on wmp will not import the files and there is no option for me to save them to the computer. Unless, I looking in the wrong place.

open explorer window (computer>dvd drive) copy wanted files
open other explorer window select folder> paste

Are they CD Audio format files, or Mp3 files?

If they're CD Audio, you can rip the songs to MP3, using the Import feature of WMP. If they're MP3 files, copy them to your hard drive and then point to them wiht WMP.
