I'm 19 and thinking of joining, is it a good gym or is it like I heard for "old people"?

Curves is a joke. they don't have any free weights or even real machines.

My mother is currently in curves. Shes not too old...36.

I'm also 19 and I think im going to join with her soon. ...the first month she went she lost 2 dress sizes. She goes four times a week (for the whole half hour).

The only thing I dont like is that in between using the equiptment, you need to jog in place on a mat for a few minutes....and, i'm not really comfortable doing that in front of people...the whole jumping/running thing in public...well, its not for me. But i guess i can just walk in place or march or something...

I'd say its good. Theres a lot of younger people that go there too.

My senior year of highschool a few girls in some of my classes were like "i saw your mom at curves".... appearently they joined also.

And who cares if it IS an old people thing? if it works.... it works!

Curves is all women and rotating station exercises I believe. If you're 19 ... join a more aggressive program if you really want to get into better shape. Most all gyms are very female friendly now that women pumping iron is totally acceptable.

Its easy, but dumb. I went there for a couple months. There is a big circle with different exercise equipment, there is music playing and it tells you when to switch machines, you go around the circle 3 times and your done (about 30 minutes) It is easy and has worked for a few people, but i joined lifestyles for ladies only and enjoyed that much better. You can do what you want, when you want, and as long as you want. But if you want the quick easy workout then curves would probably be your place.

Actually, I do think it's geared mostly for the 'middle-aged woman'. You'll probably find more people your age at a regular gym. Do a bit of investigating first before joining because some cater to hard-core pumping iron and lots of guys. Some are great because they are full of young people, have yoga and other classes, and are set up for socializing a bit.
