Should i cut out the middle man and put her into a 'big girl' bed or is it worth having the toddler bed experience? And what is the average age for out og the cot and into the bed?

either one will work but if you go the regular bed route make sure you buy the side rails with netting. I believe Safety 1st makes them. My 3 year old is in a full size beed if you can believe that. My in laws bought my boys full size bunk beds. I don't have to upgrade beds ever again. It looks funny with the side rails i mentioned but so far so good. : ) the one thing i will say about a toddler bed though is that if your child is small and likely to get out of bed at night then it is safer because it's closer to the ground.

I've done both, with my oldest we put him in a toddler bed at one year and then a "big boy bed" at 2 1/2, my daughter went straight into a big girl bed. We did delay her awhile though because we moved shortly after her birthday, then there was a death in the family, etc. and we didn't want to push her out of her comfort zone. She was in a crib I believe until she was about sixteen maybe eighteen months old. She went into a big bed, without side rails or anything with no problems. With our youngest we plan on skipping the toddler bed as well, he is only six months now, but we are planing on just buying the bed rails and moving him at about a year. We'll see how it works. I guess if he wants to go back and forth for awhile we will let him, the best guide here would be your child. Best of luck to you.

My first child went straight to a big girl bed by age 18 months, but she could walk by 9 months and has always been very tall for her age, so physically she was ready. The pediatrician recommended that the bed be no higher than her armpits, and she was tall enough. My second child transitioned through a toddler bed. We had a crib that converted into a toddler bed, though, so we didn't actually have to buy another bed. She went into a big girl bed at age 2. In both cases, the big bed was put in a corner and had a railing. I bought our baby railings at Babies R Us. I was always kind of eager for them to go into the big bed, because I always felt like the crib mattresses seemed so flimsy and uncomfortable. :)

Our 2+ year old sleeps in a toddler bed. I figure we'll get her a real grown-up bed when she literally gets too big to sleep in this bed comfortably, or gets heavy enough that if she jumps on it she might break the frame. I figure that might happen around 4-5 years. I would not be in a rush, and I wouldn't feel guilty about it. I guess I might feel different if the girl was asking for a big bed, but that's a different story.

I have three kids, all went from the crib to a toddler bed at about 12 months. By the time they were 3 they were ready for big bed's. Just make sure its not to high off the floor or get side rails for it.

I think the toddler bed is choosen because it is cute and closer to the ground. Unnecessary.. especially with bed rails now a days. This baby is going right into a bottom of a bunk bed from a crib

It is not a question of age, or what is right or wrong. The question should be whether or not your child wants to go to a big bed. When I bought a new house, I gave my son our old bed. He loved it. He was able to sleep with his favorite toys and could even play before going to sleep. He even wanted a big pillow like daddy's and to wear pajamas. The only other question you need to answer is safety. You should consider getting guard rails if you're giving your child a big bed.

Remember, it's what's best for your child that matters most. Not what others say is proper.

My 2 year old daughter has a queen size bed and has since 16months. She learned very quickly to get out of the crib, we had the spare bed already in her room so we tried it and it was good. So we purchased her a new queen to replace the old one, more plush and fresh for her and now we won't replace it for years to come. She has never fallen out we put her pillow on the wall side and I just put a pillow towards the outside just in case, the pillow would break the fall but no problems or accidents to report! Although, it's also nice if they need you to be with them for comfort and you actually have somewhere comfortable to lay down too.
