Hey, what's up with the windows updates. What is it for? I have no idea, but I know I have in my computer for some reason. So what is it?

Windows updates are automatically download to your computer. Then it will ask if you want to install it.
It's there so that when the people at Microsoft found some bugs, glitches, or securities issue with windows, they could just have windows download a patch to fix it.
It's recommended to install these update but, make sure your copy of Windows is genuine. Some updates, if it found that your windows isn't genuine, it could stop your windows from loading(havn't seen it myself, just heard it from someone).
