If you already know that cold water closes pores, then it shouldn't be too hard to understand that hot water opens pores.

Acne is caused by clogged pores. You have to open your pores with hot water, unclog them by cleaning your skin, then close your pores with cold water.

Pretty simple.

Hot water opens the pores to let out oil and dirt. Cold would close them after they are clean. Yes hot water -> soap -> cold water

Extremely hot water isn't a good idea. However, using warm water will help the cleansing agent you use to do it's job.

So.. here's the process. Warm water, then using a WASH CLOTH (the texture will help sluff off the dead skin cells) use a FRAGRANCE FREE cleanser, like Cetaphyl lotion/cleanser, rinse with warm water, to rinse away all the cleanser, then cool water, if you like. It's not actually necessary, though.

Don't forget to use a light moisturizer. If you're not moisturizing your skin, your skin will generate more oil with which to moisturize itself. Again, pick something fragrance free and light... like Lubriderm lotion.

Stay away from fragrance in everything that touches your face and head. Body soap, shampoo and conditioner caused many break-outs in my house. perfumed laundry soap is another culprit.

You should use warm water. Don't burn your skin, but you want to dissolve the excess oil. My dermatologist told my not to sit with soaps or cleansers rubbing on my face like they show in commercials, quickly later it with a mild soap and rinse right away. Use something different to remove eye makeup and try not to get that on the oil prone parts of your skin. And once again I have to say it, I use Proactive. I only use the renewing cleanser, the other parts make me breakout, but I go to the mall, pay $20.00 for a bottle and that has been the one thing that has kept my skin clear for 9 years. (at the beginning I used the toner and repairing lotion, toner made my face too greasy, so I just used repairing lotion, but now that doesn't agree with me either, maybe my skin is finally adjusting and weaning itself off it.) But it does work.

Hot water opens up your pores. I always splash hot water to open up my pores, then I apply soap, and then I splash cold water to close my pores.
