If you can, soak him good with warm water from the kitchen sink sprayer nozzle, or at least a spray bottle. The best household cleaner you can use is DAWN, or a good dish soap. Nothing else cleaner wise. soap him as good as you can, and rinse the soap off completely, with the sink faucet, or a hose. The cooking oil if vegatable oil won't kill him, but the motor oil certainly will. All birds clean their feathers with their beak and tongue. Use a good stream of water, dish soap, and get it off quickly

Wow;;
That can actually become dangerous.
A hard question to answer;;
I actually shower with my bird.
They sell shower perches all the time for it.
Birds in the wild never totally saturate thier feathers when bathing.
So gently mist, like say, from a clean spray bottle.
Considering the fact there is oil on them.
You might actually have to scrub.
DO NOT let the bird try to clean it off her/his self.
The oil can be deadly for the bird.
The best thing to do is get a wet rag && try to rub it off GENTLY.
Which won't totally get it off.
So next, run luke warm water.
Set the bird down && try to bathe it also gently.
Whatever you do, do not use any kind of soap not designed for the use of birds::
I run an aviray where I breed && sell birds.
&& I have never had to deal with that;;
So not totally sure on that one.
Seems like that would be the safest method. <3

Dawn dishwashing detergent is mild and safe to use but will get the oil out. That is what was used to clean the birds that were caught in the Exxon-valdiz oil spill and is also what veterinarians and wildlife rehabilitist recommend. Be sure to avoid the head so as not to get soap in the eyes, nares or mouth!! Good luck!
