There are many people who claim to be "devout Christians" and believe the bible is the "infallable and absolute true word of God", so if the Christians have total faith in Jehovah, why do they get to pick and choose which moral and amoral acts they want to perform from the bible?

It seems a little hypocritical to say the word of God is true, infallable, and righteous and then pick which parts you want to follow and other parts you don't want to follow because its amoral.

Not so confident in your God's word in the end?

lol, I expected to get a bunch of "Well, obviously you didn't read the bible" or "You don't understand what the bible says".

It's hard to confuse Deuteronomy 21:20-21 as meaning anything other than what it says...

20"They shall say to the elders of his city, 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.'

21"(A)Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so (B)you shall remove the evil from your midst, and (C)all Israel will hear of it and fear.

Stone your rebellious child to death... pick and choose...

Sadly this is true, but not all Christians act this way. We are not above anyone else, and you must remember that we are human and we make mistakes. Being a Christian doesn't mean that we automatically get everything right the first time, it is a lifestyle change full of growth and misunderstandings and errors, mistakes and more mistakes.
Once we know better, it should be that we do better. Many Christians think that once saved, always saved, and that we are exaunerated because of what Christ did for us. We are still sinful, we have sinful nature, and without works our faith means nothing... lest anyman should boast. Many boast before they show thier works... that doesn't nescessarily mean good deeds, it can mean how you show by example to be Christ like.
Please remember that some Christians give other Christians who are striving and trying to live according to the bible a bad name. Not every Christian is this way, and I truly am sorry that you have come across such Christians.
Please have faith that even though they miss the mark alittle, they are trying the best to thier understanding. They have alittle more way to go than some. That is where mercy and grace come in.

You say that some Christians " pick and choose which moral and amoral acts they want to perform from the bible." Although the Bible is infallible and all true, people are by nature not perfect and are all hypocritical at some point and time because they cannot accomplish the task of following everything in the Bible all of the time. It saddens me that some Christians are very hypocritical and give a very bad example to non-believers.

I believe in the whole thing. I don't pick and choose. Jesus is the Author and Finisher of my faith and He is the Word of God made flesh, so everything I do must be done through Him. There are those who call themselves devout but are not really. We are supposed to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Again, while some people may call themselves devout, they may not be. You ask a good question that many Christians should read and question within themselves. A Christian is expected to keep all and not some. And there are many, many more who do keep all. If you see a Christian doing something you know is not right, you are allowed to ask that Christian why. The Bible says that the Christian needs a ready answer for the hope that lies within them. If they get angry because you asked, then they probably lost their faith. No, we can't pick and choose. we must keep all.

First I will ask for an example. You are absolutely right in a way. We can not pick and chose which part of the Bible is God's Word and which isn't. Either all of it is or none of it is. I am extremely confident in God's Word. I have absolutely no confidence in the ideas of man. God and His Word are infallible, mankind is a sinful, fallen creature and is fallible. It would help if you could give an example or two so as to be able to better answer your question. The Bible doesn't allow for compromise and God hates compromise. If you refer to The Law then I respond, "We are not under Law but under grace". This is not a licence to sin. This simply means that Christians have accepted the fact that Jesus Christ paid the death penalty for sin -demanded by God in the OT- on our behalf. But Christians need to sometimes be reminded that they will some day stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ and account for what they've done with their lives since being saved. Christians will not have to stand before the Great White Throne of Judgement mentioned in Revelations because that is for all whose names are not written in The Book of Life -unbelievers.

If Christians pick and choose what to believe in the Bible, they are guilty of hypocrisy and sin. In particular, the New Testament and the teachings of Jesus should be taken very seriously by a sincere Christian.

The Bible is the Word of God!
As Christians we do not get to pick and choose what we want to Believe from the Bible! Either we believe the whole Bible or we believe in none of the Bible. There are no gray areas in the matter.

They do not get to pick and choose. God knows our hearts and He will not allow anyone into Heaven who knowingly picks or chooses false doctrines.

I believe your feelings are the result of one of the problems that exist in Christendom; that is so many different denominations which believe most of the same things yet differ in about a half dozen doctrines. Some of the things we disagree on are 1. The day on which we worship. 2. What happens to you when you die? 3. How the world will end and how Jesus will return. The denomination I choose to belong to and I believe studies and lives closest to the Scriptures has what I feel is the safest way to learn God's Word. We believe you study every possible subject and compare scripture with scripture. If there are 150 text about hell and 148 clearly are in agreement and 2 appear to say something else, you will find through study that the 2 will agree with the 148. The danger, to ourselves ( the following of false teachings, though we may be sincere ) and people like you ( who turn away from God )is there are so many disagreements between denominations that some spend so much effort trying to prove false teachings from the Scriptures. Let's face one fact which is there can only be one "Holy " day ( not two or three ) and either you no nothing after death til Jesus raises you from the dead or you go straight to Heaven or Hell when you die. Too too many denominations build their entire faith on a few text.

Satan has spent 6,000 years preparing people ( us ) who are living in the last days to be lost and miss out on the blessings of Heaven. So many people like yourself who ask questions critically with little or no desire to learn the truth will be lost and that is sad. It is also sad that many people who believe and teach false doctrines will be lost as well ( the Bible says that Jesus will turn away many from entering Heaven who cried out that they did many things in His name......Jesus tells them "sorry, I never new you!" ).

Jesus says to search the Scriptures for in them you will learn of Him! My best wishes to you. Email me and I will send you the link to a great Bible study site that teaches, not preaches.

You probably have never read the entire bible...and it is certain from your posts that you are clueless as to what any of it means.

So why should anyone believe your intolerance of Christians?

You have proved one scripture very true however:

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts..."
(2 Peter 3:3)

"For the time will come when they shall not endure sound teaching, but after their own lusts they shal heap to themselves teachers who tell them what they want to hear,, and they will turn away their ears from the truth..." 2 Tim .4:3

Because we are led by the Holy Spirit. The laws of Moses were not issued by the Holy Spirit, and God's moral code is far beyond the laws in the Old Testament.

do you have any idea how many people live by Biblical principles because the see the success that comes from that? Many do it who are not Christians at all, because it just makes good sense.

Why do you focus on a few who pick and chose, would you do that if I went to a restaurant and didn't order everything on the menu? Would you be so critical of me for not eating everything they offer?
