Basically, since Katrina, I've been thinking of sinking $50 into an Eton radio (FR300), that broadcasts the emergency weather frequencies, plus AM/FM/VHF and TV. Plus it has a light, siren and cellphone charger. Wise? Or, am I just being paranoid?

I have lived through the WTC attacks, the Northeast blackout, snowstorms, summer blackouts, and hurricanes. Also lived through a tornado while in the mid-west. You might not think you will need that radio, but when the time comes it will be a relief. To be able to listen to your local radio news or TV audio for up-to-date status instead of sitting in your home with no information, will provide you a sense of calmness. For yourself and your family.

Why not make your own emergency go-bag for such emergencies? Some suggestions what to pack are available at redcross.org

What could it hurt? It will give you peace of mind and better safe than sorry. (If you can afford to spend the money)
