The outcome would be similar to the English-only proposition and the proposition that limited benefits and education to citizens that passed overwhelmingly in California, but were both struck down by invader special interest groups in the Courts. The government is not our friend. It likes a docile, non-voting population.
Probably the only thing the Dem Congress and Bush agree on is amnesty for the invaders. If it passes, it's up to us to make sure that they pay dearly.

I think the majority would vote for secure boarders. Why can't this be simply done? Not all issues must be voted upon. If it is as obvious as that, then why waste resources orgarnising such a vote? Securing a border can be done in so many ways, which is the duty of government to approach as prudently as it finds.

It would pass overwhelmingly. People seem to forget that even in Arizona, which elected a Democrat as Governor, all of the anti-illegal immigration propositions passed by about a 3 to 1 vote. (More than 3 to one on some, a little less than 3 to 1 on the least popular.)

I guess it would depend on your definition of "securing"our borders. Bush thinks that building a huge wall around the Mexican border will keep them out. How stupid. The problem is that when America opened its borders to immigrants, it created the problem that we now face. So the question becomes can we have secure borders without becoming isolationists and not allowing anyone into the country? The answer is of course, yes. While it is no easy task, we can have pretty secure borders. But only where we actually have borders. Imagine how long the western and eastern seaboards are. I mean from Oregon to southern California and from Rhode Island to the tip of Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, these are borders, but can they be secure? Probably not. It was be an easy task to bring a ship within a few miles of our coastline and put a small boat into the water to finish the journey to one of our beaches. Very easy.
But to your question on how we would vote, I would think that Americans would vote for a more secure border... but then they would leave it up to the government and thats where it gets screwed up.

Because we are not a democracy anymore. America gets what the politicians decide what is "best" and all the people can do is gripe about it.
