Pestal and Mortar Care?

I was given a granit pestal and mortar for xmas and was just wondering if there are any particular things i need to do with it before i use it or after and how to clean it?

Clean by hand with mild soap and warm water, Dry with towel. Not recommended to use in dishwasher. ...

It's basically a rock. Keep it out of the dishwasher, and wipe it down after use.
