Oh my gosh! This is right up there with someone asking me how long it took me to drive from Hawaii to Texas. See, my car had Hawaii plates on it and I guess they assumed there was a bridge or better yet a tunnel. Everyone assumes it's like part of another world. Hello....it is part of the United States...just not connected to it. Review your geography. Mahalo, Lani

Are you a U.S. Citizen?

If so, to check in and pass through security in Los Angeles (or from Hawaii), you will be required to have a valid photo I.D. such as a passport, driver's license or state I.D. (with photo).

If you are a non-U.S. citizen, then you may require a passport and in some situation, a visa. Passports are only necessary if you will be going to a foreign country from Hawaii (for US citizen) or if you are a non-U.S. citizen.

If renting/driving a car in Hawaii, you will be required to have a valid driver's license.

Do you mean, do you need a passport? No - Hawaii is one of the traditional states. A driver's license will do just fine.

No, your drivers license would work fine. Its part of United states. But one of the security lady pointed out that my license will be expiring in couple of days. I could have argued if that would matter to let me in, but to avoid such confusions its better to take other documentation which supports it, in case your license is expiring when you are travelling
