You can try claritin, which is non drowsy. It was once a prescription medication, but a few years ago they changed to an over the counter(OTC) medication. You can also try Sudafed as needed to relieve congestion.
Also, I have allergies to dogs and cats, and I own 2 dogs. I use zyrtec and allegra. I also use nasocort and elestat (antihistamine eyedrop). If the claritin doesn't work for your, I suggest you see a doctor to get a script for zyrtec.

The is nothing 'specific', but just regular allergy medication that is used for pretty much all allergies. Allergy medications work by blocking the histamine which causes your allergic reaction. You might want to try a non drowsy formula as regular allergy medications use the same active ingredient as sleeping pills...hence the reason they make one sleepy.

Wow, I'm the allergy queen!!! To me over the counter drugs did nothing. Right now I'm on both Zyrtec and Singulair (and eye drops) and the combination is working. Don't be afraid to see a doctor if the over the counter stuff doesn't work for you.
(Benodryl makes you drowzy too!!)

Claritin works quite well. I'm extemely allergic to cats, but with claritin I can be with them for quite a number of hours.
Benadryl doesn't cut it, and it puts me to sleep too.
