The color of the Catholic clerical clothes is connected with the hierarchy of of the clergy
+ The Pope wears white
+ Cardinals wear red
+ Bishops wear violet
+ Priest wear black
Black is a symbol of:
+ Poverty, giving up bright colors and thus giving up what the world brings, its glittering, honors and entertainment
+ Dying to to the world every day and being immersed in eternity
+ Dying to oneself to rise and serve the Lord as well as giving witness of the Kingdom yet to come.
With love in Christ.

The black shirt is a descendent of the cassock and related clothes along with the white collar.
University professors, or the ancient equivalent, wore distinct clothing. They wore a cassock and the white collar. To be a Christian priest or deacon, you had to be able to read. Literacy was around 1% or less and generally if you could read, then you were very well educated (relatively speaking). Since most people only owned one set of clothes, if you could read, then you taught, you wore your distictive teacher clothes and if you were Christian the odds were pretty good you were ordained.
The clothing of the Catholic Church is the clothing of the very early Church. Because the basis of Catholic thought is on the apostolic tradition, or paradosis as it is described in the Greek of scripture, there is a tendency to not change things. As this was the practice of the earliest Christians, this tends to continue.
As a note, in some jurisdictions, married priests actually wear lighter colors and the black is restricted to widows and monastics. And yes, some parts of the Catholic Church have married priests, it is just rare in the United States. There are probably only a few hundred here, if that many.

The black gown of the priest, called a cassock or soutane, is not a vestment. It is simply the ordinary outer garb [of a priest used frequently in the past. The Columbia Encyclopedia states: "The cassock, a close-fitting gown buttoning down the front and reaching to the feet, is not a vestment so much as the daily uniform of the Western priest."

Catholic leaders are not,at the moment, giving real spiritual knowledge, but partial only.
1. They believe in resurection:dead bodies will come to life again!Scientifically, all matter consisting the body will decompose completely...Only soul is immortal.
One Emperor changed reincarnation to resurection:Justinian inyr 600.
2. They don't respect animals:they eat them!
Animals have also the right to live, and are equal inthe eyes of God to humans.
3. Jesus never changed water into wine:such additions exist due to corrupt Popes in the past...How can a divine person
encourage intoxication of the body,a temple of God?
4. The Vatican accumulates money, instead of distributing it to the poor...
5.Many priests have used their donations and position to rape children! And the Pope knew about it!
6. They condemn hinduism, because of "idol" worship![1 billion of them],though there are pure devotees among Indians, who have the greatest religious scriptures of the world:the Vedas.
God can also incarnate into metals, and other materials....He's omnipresent!
So they wear black skirt, due to their black magic ways....

Not a skirt but a robe and why not black-has no symbolic meaning like any connection with the devil, but JUST A COLOR that is practical to wear everyday.Does not show dust, dirt as much as other colors and black is associated with Dignity., to look Dignified-probably the main reason for the black color choice

i think it fine i am getting confirmed in 1 day and i am wearing a black dress. if you can, put some color into it like a blue or white jean jacket and nude heels or if you don't prefer heels flats or something nice. i want to wear jeans and a nice top but my mother is making me wear this dress and heels and jewelry and its not my style so this isn't gonna be a pretty night. i can't even walk in heels…its bad! but i would go with wedges if you are going to have a after party outside because the heels would stink into the grass. i walked outside and tripped because the heel went straight into the grass, it was hilarious but if its inside then heels are perfect.

Black encompasses all colors melded into one. I believe, and this is ONLY my opinion, but since all colors are melded, each race/color (White, Hspanic, Black, Asian, Native American) is represented.
Have a lovely rest of the evening. Bright Blessings.

It's a cassock. And we wear it because in our Ordination Vows we renounce the world and become God's Property. It's a sign of renunciation.

If you were to drink all that wine they drink as the blood of their God and you were to go to sleep drunk most nights and would not get out of bed to go to the toilet but would rather wet your bed then you will need black skirts to hide the pee stains while you wont realise that you smell of the stale stuff.
