I'm dating this girl who hasen't dated anyone before and is really shy. What is a great way to break the ice and get her to open up?

Get together in a group so you don't run into that "odd silence". maybe watch a movie or go for a walk. Just find out what she likes to do!

um my bf had the same problem with me
he talked to me and made me respond by asking me questions and
told jokes
asked my opinion on things and
talked to me about anything and
soon after that i began gaining confidence
i still have my isssues but
I do my best to open up =P

First, don't rush her into anything, that she is not ready for. Be good to her and treat her with repect and be yourself with her and things will work out for you both. She will open up and you both will be very happy.
