Yes it is gross but it is what some dogs do. There is really no way to stop it, just try and not let your dog have the chance to eat it by picking it up as soon as he goes

It means your dog eats poop. Lots of dogs do, it is disgusting to humans but perfectly normal for some dogs. On some occasions it can mean your dog isn't utilizing the nutrition in its food.

Sometimes it comes from having the puppies in enclosed spaces that are left dirty.

Sometimes faulty potty training can cause it, such as punishing the dog by pushing their nose in poop.

Changing to good food may help.

Using a product like Deter or Forbid is very effective in stopping the behavior.

Working really hard to clean up the poop before a dog can get to it is also highly effective.

I have a 10 month old German shepherd, that I had the same problem with. My vet and everyone else said it was lacking something in her diet. So, I must have tried several diets with vitamins and all. That didn't work, so I had to train my dog not to eat her poop. First make sure you keep the area they use to go potty clean of poop and always keep and eye on your dog. I had to go outside with her every time she needed.

It doesn't really mean anything, other than it is typical dog behavior..Dogs don't have such delicate sensibilities as humans (some humans, anyway) and will eat anything!
dogs are taught that it is a good thing to do, from their moms, when mom cleans up after them when they are puppies. she eats it, and when there is too much for her to handle, the puppies pitch in, as mom's little helpers, to keep the nesting area clean..
they learn that it tastes ok, and some continue the habit into adulthood.
Most mammals and birds will eat poop...their own and other animal's..
don't believe anyone who tells you that it is something lacking in their diets..not true..
