Okay, first things first, Parakeets don't EXACTLY talk, they just mimic what it is that you or someone else teaches them.

Now, to answer your questions, there are two main things you need when training a Parakeet: Patience and Time (lots of it, too). A Parakeet learns through CONSTANT repetition, if you don't have the time to sit with him/her to teach them, then I would reccommend getting a tape recorder, you can usually find them at pet stores that sell birds, I know for a fact PetSmart carries a couple different ones. Although, I would also reccommend calling around and making sure of a couples things first: if they carry them, if they have any in stock, and price. Shop around and see what kind of deals you can get. Or, try at Pawn Shops, and see what's been received there.

When teaching your Parakeet, start with simple sounds or what not, the first few are THE hardest, but it usually becomes easier from there on out. Also, you have to have at LEAST 30 minutes to work with them every day, also, using the acquired tape recorder, record your voice saying/making the desired, leaving a few seconds between each repetition for when you are away. This way he/she's practicing even when you can't be there. :)

One last thing to remember, when teaching your Parakeet, remember to work with him/her in different places (usually kept in the house, though), so as to eliminate them associating talking with a specific place.

If you have any questions or comments just e-mail me at either nsaneknutkase@yahoo.com (Yahoo!) or smckinst@capital.edu (School).

Have a great evening/morning.

When a bird starts opening and closing his beak it doesn't mean he is trying to talk. When my birds do it they air tends to be very dry.
Parakeets are great talkers. My last male 'keet said over 50 words and was still learning. I've known people who had 'keets that said more then 100.
The best way to get a 'keet started is to take him out of his cage and talk softly to him. Make sure it is slow because 'keets tend to talk really fast. Parakeets tend to learn things with the "itty" sound in them like "Pretty itty bitty birdie" and they also enjoy a good game of peek-a-boo.
If your parakeet is tame and you spend lots of fun time talking to him not only will you build a stronger bond but you will have a little chatter box as well.

Use a baseball bat. Or a cattle prod. Sleep deprivation might do it.Or maybe let your cat try. You see, the problem is that parakeets really don't talk except rarely, and you're just letting yourself in for a lot a frustration. Get a parrot. Works better.

Just keep talking to him or if you're busy leave the t.v. on and he'll learn. But best of all is the interaction between you and your bird. They'll say the word in your voice. It takes awhile you have to be with them often but at 10 min. intervals or they will become bored.
Parakeets take longer than for example a Cockatiel. Keep at it. You can also record a word on tape and play it over and over for 10 min. each day. Have fun!

It's rare for them to talk, but it has happened. If your bird is a baby it might be a little easier and if he does talk it would be limited to maybe one or two words. Just try repeating a word over and over each day until you are sick of it or the bird says it.

distinctly mush any parrot style can communicate, yet some take longer and greater artwork than others. I knew a woman with 2 woman parakeets that ought to communicate in complete sentences(she grew to become into disabled and he or she grew to become into domicile with all of them day. while she went to the puppy keep they could sit down on her procuring cart handle. they could ask the place thier nutrition grew to become into and you should get a random bag of nutrition and that they could say "thats no longer my nutrition" its truly cool.)As for budgies having the biggest vocabulary im no longer completely confident even yet it does not seem probably. what it somewhat is fairly is a budgie particularly that has set a international checklist for having the biggest vocabulary of any puppy poultry or something like that

just start talking to him. he should look at you strange and intrigued and then he'll mimic you voice. parrots are easy parakeets a bit harder. it's easy to teach them to whistle tunes. good luck.
