There's a few things to check when you run into this problem.

1 - Most common is that the HDMI output on the DVD Recorder is not activated. Connect a video cable (Yellow Composite) from the DVD player to the television. Go into the menu and make sure that the HDMI output is activated. This should get you picture.

2 - If the above doesn't fix it, then it is more than likely the Copy protection built into the DVD player going out to DVI which on a set that old does not support HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection).

So what you may need to do is forget using HDMI, because on that set with that DVD recorder you are not going to see a difference in the progressive image that is that noticeable.

I do training Nationally for Monster Cable and worked for Panasonic for two years so I'm very familiar with the problem you are running into. Feel free to email me through my profile, or through my blog below if you have more questions.

This is a rather "old" TV. Two things that may be happening

a) No HDCP. If the DVI port does not support HDCP you will not get any picture from set-top boxes or DVD players

b) This is least likely. but possible. It is an ANALOG DVI port (sort of like a replacement for VGA). In that case it may not support Digital DVI content. Check with your TV User manual and specs.

relies upon on the internal switching on the television some have menus that enable you to set which HDMI sockets carry which sign, failing which you will possibly might desire to circulate in the process the dvd recorder or use a splitter
