quite evidently..your baby is not strong enough to walk by himself. It takes alot for a baby to just strand!..let alone walk by him/herself. Your baby being able to walk with you holding it's hand is a first step for the baby to gain strength in his little legs..and to build confidence to be able to walk by himself.
I would strongly suggest you buy a child development book to help you understand more about a baby's cognitive and physical development.
relax..your baby will start to cruise by himself leaning and holding against things until he is ready to attempt the big step all alone.

I had a cousin with this problem. She could walk wherever just fine while holding a hand or couch or something, but would not walk on her own. My aunt finally ended up giving her a rolled up towel to hold onto, and she walked everywhere with it on her own! It's worth a shot.

I think that your baby is on a roll so far. Give your baby a chance and be patient. I would put something that your child loves in front of them so as to enterest them to go for it. If you are worried or concerned, go to the link below. Best wishes.

He may not be ready, or strong enough to support himself yet. He simply may not feel ready. Keep encouraging, assisting and giving positive reinforcement. He'll walk when he's ready!!

He'll walk when he's ready. Babies move at their own pace. Just be patient. He'll be walking and be into everything in no time!

He needs to do it himself!
Let him learn what muscles it takes to lift up his foot.
Cheer him on. But, let him do it.

Don't rush him.
