It used to be, but times certainly have changed. Once upon a time, immigrants came to America from all different nations and spoke different languages and had different customs, just like now. However, the immigrants of the past did something that today's immigrants don't do; they assimilated. They learned English and became fluent in the language, they worked hard to get ahead, they believed in education as a way to better themselves, which was the reason for coming to this country to begin with. They wanted a better way of life. Well, today's immigrants want better lives, too. They don't want to work for it, though. If you're a legal immigrant, chances are that you're getting a lot handed to you for free, like education. If you're an illegal immigrant, you may be earning a lower salary than most U.S. citizens, but you get free medical care and live tax free. Both legal and immigrants are bad for the country because they feed off of government services, make money in this country and, instead of using it in this country, send it back home to their families so they can live in a 3rd world nation living like kings and queens. We have enough people in this country right now. i say close the borders!

Some immigration is good for America, just as it is for any country. However, like with any country, too much immigration leads to lots of problems, such as:

1) Unemployment
2) Crime (caused by unemployment if nothing else)
3) Drug trafficing (if borders are porous to allow people, then they will allow in what those people are carrying).

Controlled immigration allows for new ideas to come into the country, but at a rate the country can absorb. Controlled immigration also allows us to pick and choose the very best people who want to come here. We should be selective in our immigration and make the decisions about who should come here - we should not leave the decision up to individual foreigners who may want to come here illegally. What kind of a citizen are these people likely to make when their very first action (to come here or stay here illegally) is flounting our laws?

The US has laws about how many people can enter each year. We should enforce those laws. Some say we need more immigration than the laws currently allow. That may be true. If so, then those people should work to change the laws instead of making it easy for people to enter the country in violation of the law.

Existing laws should be enforced, and that includes laws against providing comfort and sanction to illegal aliens.

What country are you from?
We learned about the consequences of having too many immigrants in our history class in middle and high school.
It caused lack of food, lack of jobs, and lack of living space.
Illegals adds another problem: Raises tax money and insurance and etc.
I don't mind the legal immigrants that comes in to help improve this country. But I think the majority is made up of people that wants better jobs, came here just because they liked this country..........what I mean is that the majority of immigrants are average people that came here for their benefits and their benefits only. All that does is increase the population of this country.

PS: The guy down there is probably an illegal.
He speaks like an idiot and sounds like he's trying to support the immigration.

When immigrating to this country legally, you are carefully screened and interviewed. You'd better not have a criminal background, you better not lie, and you must have something to contribute, a plan if you will. Illegal immigration bypasses all this criteria. So when you ask your question it's important to differentiate between the two. I mean, look around at the questions, you know the answers. All in all immigration is a great thing.

It would be nice for you to be more specific...because there is a LARGE difference between illegal immigration and legal. Illegal is what's ruining our economy, especially where I live, about 30 minutes from Tijuana. Legal immigration is what our country is built on, but illegals are taking advantage of the freedom that we worked so hard to gain.

Immigration is what this country is built on - what Americans descend from. Illegal immigration is what the problem with immigration is. Too many come here not following the laws because they "don't like them". Boo hoo.

Immigration is wonderful. Illegal Immigration costs us 30 to 60 billion annually. And those illegals kill, rob, and rape thousands of innocent Americans every year. We should put a mile wide mine field along the border.

immigration is good because it enables the US economy to take advantage of a cheap labor force. The key point is that their is a large immigration problem because there are so many Americans who hire illegal aliens, period.
