Scoliosis is a spine that curves in an unnatural fashion, perhaps off to one side (most common) or too far forward or backward, or with an extra curve in the middle (S shape is normal). Usually a back brace is worn for a time but sometimes surgery is necessary

Scoliosis is when your spine is shaped like an "s" . the comes from a greek word meaning crooked. About 3 out of every 100 people have some form of scoliosis, though for many people it's not much of a problem. For a small number of people, the curve gets worse as they grow and they may need a brace or an operation to correct it. Doctors say that scoliosis can run in families. So if a parent, sister, or brother had scoliosis, you might have it, too. Most types of scoliosis are more common in girls than boys, and girls with scoliosis are more likely to need treatment.
An orthopedist, or orthopedic surgeon, knows a lot about bones and the skeleton and knows how to treat scoliosis. Someone who has a mild curve may just need regular checkups to make sure the curve isn't getting worse. Someone with a more severe curve may need to wear a brace or have an operation.
You could treat scoliosis by wearing braces, or surgery.
A metal rod in a kid's back? It may sound strange, but that rod has an important job while the bones are growing together. It holds the spine in place during healing. The kid can still move to pet the dog, swim laps, or shoot hoops. After the bones fuse, the metal rod isn't needed anymore. But it's not hurting anything, so it isn't removed. To remove it would mean getting another operation. Before they used metal rods, a kid would have to wear a body cast for up to a year to keep the spine in place during the recovery period. No fun at all!

Scoliosis is a problem with the curve in your spine. Some curves in your spine are normal. But a few people have spines that make a large curve from side to side in the shape of the letter “S” or the letter “C.” If this curve is severe, it can cause pain and make breathing difficult.
The good news is that most cases of scoliosis are mild. If found early, they can usually be prevented from getting worse.

Scoliosis is an s-shaped curvature of the spine. It's treatable - the person who is being treated wears a special back brace that straightens the spine gradually. It can also be treated surgically.

scoliosis is when your spine curves side to side. most people don't need treatment, but for cases that look likely to worsen people can get surgery or implants that correct the spine. each case is unique to the individual and the cause of scoliosis is unknown, so treatments might not work.

it's a curveature of the spine & it can be treated either by surgery or by wearing a back brace---depending on how severe of a case it is.
in some instances, nothing is done, because it isn't bad enough to require fixing
