Cats do get colds and viruses. Keep an eye on your cat, if she/he seems to be lethargic or kinda feels tense or stiff when you pick him up, take him to the vet, as he is probably not eating or drinking and becoming dehydrated. Cats get depressed easily because they don't think they should get colds or have health problems, so then they tell themselves that they should just lay down and die, and some do, but if you encourage them and get them to drink water, they perk up again and say to themselves, Hey this human likes me so I better continue to keep him company for a while yet...

While it could be allergies, it's more likely an upper respiratory virus or infection. At least those should be ruled out by a vet. These viruses are similar to a human cold - and are highly contagious just like human colds. So if you have been around your relative's cats or your relative has been around your cat, chances are the virus was tagging along on hands/feet/clothes. These viruses can lead to infections, which then need to be treated with antibiotics and supportive care. Definitely make a trip to the vet.

It could be an allergy, a cold, or dry air. Sometimes they just sneeze and it's nothing. I was sick just before Christmas and my cat was too. She was sneezing a lot to try to clear mucus from her body. We wasn't eating and just laying in the living room moaning. We put food in front of her and she spit up a bunch of mucus. WE then put on a humidifier to ease her congestion and within a day she was eating and moving around again. Supposedly cats can't get our colds, but I swear my cat had the same thing I had.

It sounds like upper respatory virus. It takes about three weeks to run it's course. This virus can be carried on clothes, hands, etc. Your cat will have bouts of this the rest of it's life. It's kinda like a fever blister in people.

Need to see the vet- mine did this due to a respiratory virus. It really needs to be treated! When properly treated, the outcome is great. If not treated....

The winter often causes cats and dogs to have sinus problems due to decreased humidity.
