My hubby & i are deciding on a trip for our first year anniversary of our marriage. I have decided we should go to Austrailia, specifically Sydney, what is the best hotel to stay at? resort? it has to be a bit romantic. Also, what areas are the best for tourist? what's the best places to eat in that town? what areas should we stay away from?

If it's you first anniversary - number one - congrats!
I'd suggest staying somewhere around Darling Harbour, it's kind of a tourist mecca so it's fairly easy to get around and some of the hotels are pretty good. Lots of places to eat there too, some can be pricey but they're generally worth it because they have a great atmosphere.
I'd suggest staying away from Kings Cross (not romantic, it's a bit of a red light district, not dangerous but just not romantic)

As for touristy things - you've got your standard Bondi Beach (which has a big shopping centre up the road if you're looking for one - Westfield Bondi Junction); there's the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Rocks (also good night life). Even when I lived there I liked walking around South Head and 'The Gap' at Watsons Bay but there isn't much else there if you don't like walking. What else, you could catch a ferry across the harbour to the zoo and they have awesome views of the city and the harbour as well as a good variety of Australian animals (not as good as Melbourne Zoo but still ok) There's the Museum and Art Gallery which are ok, not really big but if you're into it, it's ok. For day trips out of town definately go to the Blue Mountains, they have horse riding and rainforest walks and heaps of stuff. (Spend a night at a Bed & Breakfast there for something really romantic!)

Have fun!

Sydney! Why on earth go there for a romantic first anniversary. Why not stay in the UK and go to Birmingham. Its pretty much the same thing tourist-wise.
Australia has so much to offer, go to the top end for some real romance.
Check out the Australia tourist sites.
Don't spend a whole lot of money just to go to a (small) city over here.
Jeez, whats the point

Look up the web site for "Sydney Weekender" and take it from there. Happy holiday!
