In Washington if you sell more than 5 you need an automotive dealers license. With this license you have no limitations.

In the state of Illinois, you can sell up to three (3) cars without a dealers license. After you obtain a license, you can sell as many as you want.

Depends on the state. I know in Ohio it is six without a license.
