I'm not sure what you mean by 'determined', but you can DESCRIBE something quantitavely and qualitatively.

If you mean like, a piece of fat off of an animal, you could say qualitatively it's white and slimy, and quantitavely it has a mass of X grams, it is X inches thick...X being the numeral that corresponds.

Quantitative: A number/measurement of some sort. The tree is 8 feet tall.
Qualitative: A description using words...The tree is green.
