1. Acting different from normal (ie. irrated, sad, aggressive, etc)?

2. Burning eyes (ie. blinking more than normal, paws on eyes)?

3. Giving off bad odor that kind of smells like urine which fills the whole room?

4. Oilly residue on pet?

5. Anything else abnormal not listed above?

If you really feel you dog is having reactions to Advantage, I would bathe him right away to get the Advantage off and then call the 800 number on the package. The people at Advantage will be able to tell you what is going on. Your dog might be allergic to Advantage or have another problem. When I worked for a vet, we did have 2 dogs that COULD NOT TOLERATE ADVANTAGE!! The advantage people will reimburse you for your purchase and give you advice on how to handle the fleas. Good luck!

After applying Advantage my dog had number 1. was very quiet and basically didn't want to wake up, kind of number 3. she would let off very smelly gas and after lying down would get up and have a big wet patch (about 30cm) near her rear end so like she had no bladder control or something (not sure exactly what is going on there).

My dog also went funny in the back legs. Once she is standing she can stand fine, but it is trying to get up once down (almost impossible) and trying to get from up to donw. Or up stairs etc. Her legs would also shake slightly

Advantage and my vet do not believe that it is a response to the Advantage, although it happened about 10 hours afterwards and I have been around her the entire time to know she has not done much else. If anyone else has had neurological type side effects with the advantage flea control could you pls let me know as Advantage needs to know if it is a possible side effect at this point there are no other complaints on their records.

Next month they are going to put it on my dog again and see if it happens again, and if it does update their database accordingly, but at this point they do not believe that the neurological side effects are a result of the flea medication.

i work at a vet clinic, and we dispense some advantage. The only side effects i have seen since i've been working there are skin irritation at the site where it was applied, and sometimes dogs get neurological symtoms, such as shaking, not walking, falling over, just not acting right. In both of these cases we are able to treat them and they are fine. We just use a different flea product the next time. I'm sure there are other side effects that can happen, but i have not seen any others since i've been working at the vet clinic. if you are concerned you can call and ask your vet, or take him in for a visit. Good Luck.

I gave my poodle a pill for fleas and it made her have seizures but i later put the flea medicine the vet gave me to use that goes between the dogs shoulder blades and she did fine on that. My vet says there are certain flea medicine that can't be given to some dogs such as beagles and Shelties as it can kill them so be safe as the other have said and take your dog to the vet if you love him and I'm sure you do, just to be on the safe side. Flea medicine has to be administered by weight and most people who treat their own pets don't always do this. I hope all goes well for your pet.

I have noticed only #4 above, but that is the nature of Advantage and other flea/tick solutions like that - - that is, it coats the animal's skin with an oily residue for a few days.

One of my dogs ran around neurotically and lost her hair in patches where the advantage was applied. I have her an immediate bath, but it was too late...hair loss continued for a few days. She's fine now, and her hair is growing back, but I wouldn't use Advantage again. Oily residue as well, but that I could have handled.

I only noticed the smelly room thing. it smells like a damp smell but i think it is common.
maybe you should consult your vet if your doggy is getting effected by the flea control. it may be an allergic reaction.
good luck to you and you doggy!
