Avoid McDonald's and any other fast food restaurant like the plague for a while. Cut out the chips, dips, colas and crap in your diet. I'm not saying go cold turkey, but your Dr. should have given you some instructions. If he/she doesn't, go to a Dr. who cares enough about your well-being to help you fight your high cholesterol with a good diet. Medicine is good, but who wants to have to take pills the rest of their life when they can solve 80-90% of their problems by watching what they eat and getting some regular exercise. You don't have to train for a marathon, but take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away from the door,
get a partner who will help you with your diet and exercise.

Cholesterol comes from animal products only. Cholesterol is produced by the liver so a good rule of thumb is "if it has a liver" then it has and will raise your cholesterol. You can eat any vegetable or bread but watch out for the butter. But it's best to catch it while your young and you can develop good eating habits that will extend your life. Happy New Year.

Fast food answer...eat more salads and grilled sandwich options when visiting your local "Heart attack cafe".
Soul food answer...more chicken and turkey, roasted or smoked, not fried. A lot less pork. Look online for recipes using smoked turkey wings instead of ham or bacon when cooking vegtables. Conola oil instead of vegtable oil saves a little. If you are from the south, eat grits for breakfast instead of that sausage biscuit. If your from the north, oatmeal. A gronola cerial recomended by the health food store is also a good option. When you have to have that fried chicken fix..try oven fried chicken. My mom raised us on it.

increasing your soluble fiber intake to 30 grams a day will help to lower your total cholesterol. increasing the amount of monounsaturated fats in your diet will increase the HDL:LDL ratio, which is actually more important than your total cholesterol.

Your doctor should have given you instructions, and or directed you to a dietician, or nutrientist.
