I'm very busy as I'm in grad school, however I'm getting married soon and part of my fiance's family speaks Tagalog. My fiance doesn't speak it, but it's spoke in the household and at family gatherings.

Hmmmmm....Tagalag...spoken in the Phillipines. Language courses on tape as one drives.....TV shows in the target language....full immersion!!!!! Good luck and congrats on the wedding!

Pay attention and ask them to teach you some common phrases. That way at least you understand parts of conversations. The more you're around a language, teh easier you catch on.

i would reccomend going to a bookstore and getting lots of books that teach that language. also get the cd learning ones where someone actually helps you hear the pronunciations. this is your best best, its harder not having someone push you and make sure you are learning and practicing so keep up on that and just the more you practice the more familiar you will become. good luck

Surround yourself with people who speak that language and no other. Do not leave their company until you have mastered Tagalog.

There are language learning CDs at the library. I haven't tried them, but I heard they work.

You alrady know english, so why bother? They come here, make the rule - speak english. Just like the mexicans should.

in any language, you can do a lot with "hi" and "thank you"
find out these words and try them

if it goes well for you, then learn "bye" and "sorry"
