Here's my take:
Dodge uses Cummins diesel engines, which seems to be standing the test of time pretty darn well seeing as how PACCAR trucks (Kenworth & Peterbilt) are both using Cummins as standard equipment.
Chevrolet (A company who I am forever faithful to) used to use Detroit DuraMAX diesel engines. Well, Detroit Diesel is on a downhill slide and probably won't survive into the next decade.
Ford Powerstroke is an International Diesel engine, which is all well and good, until it comes time to buy parts on a weekend, as Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit dealers for the most part are open 24/7...all International dealers nationwide operate on an 8-5 M-F work week. Sure, truck parts are still available from Ford, but engine parts are International specific.
In my opinion, Chrysler's the way to go on diesel for the time being, until someone else convinces me otherwise.

I would if the diesel prices would come down but with diesel prices like they are no. I like my inline 6 engine in my jeep so I wouldn't buy a new one. The new jeeps don't have an inline 6 anymore.

The new one comes out soon. A revised 2.8 , quieter and more fuel efficient. The existing 2.8 is good, the earlier one ( pre 2003 ) was a bit rattly. The original 2.5 was great, but a bit underpowered. The Big cherokee 3.0 V6 is a stormer, 215 BHP, and quiet as a mouse.

the last diesel cherokee xj used a 2.1 ltr renault engine [actually if kept up it was pretty good unit] but like the Italian job in the much newer and also discontinued diesel liberty, parts are hard to come by. so no i would not buy one.
