OK so I'm 30 years old and have long wavy brown hair, almost butt-length. And I have it in a braid or ponytail 24/7, literally, and usually with a cute little bow or scrunchy. I've noticed lately that the other ladies my age at playgroups, religious gatherings, etc all have hair not much past their shoulders or cropped short.

Honestly, what do you think? If you have a serious answer, please be my guest! If you have a silly one, knock your socks off and get the two points. But please don't be rude and poke fun at me :-(

Cool answers so far! I leave my hair braided because it looks like Arwen from Lord of the Rings *shrug*. To each his (her) own, right?

Just because all the soccer moms are getting theirs cut off doesn't mean you have to comply. You're not a Stepford wife, you know!

Your hair, your choice!

If you're comfortable with it and have the time to care for it, then keep it long. Don't let anyone tell you to cut it! It should always be your choice!

I am 55 years old and I can almost sit on mine. I have had long hair since my freshman year in high school although I have had it cut short several times since then. I look awful in short hair, and always had others talk me into cutting it. Through the years I have often felt that they were jealous. This actually is the longest it has ever been, and I only have a few grey hairs. I think it depends on the person. Some people look rediculous in long hair, like my sister in law, she is growing hers out now, and it is all grey and makes her look too old. Besides, it takes years to get it long, so by the time you cut it off, it will be in again and you'll have to wait until it is out of style to be long enough. LOL Just do what you want to do and don't let anyone influence you.
BTW I have had tons of compliments on my hair this past year, no one has ever said I am too old. Only that it is so beautiful and long.

I'm 21 and am working super hard to get my hair butt-length. I've definatly noticed how older women seem to have shorter hair particularly once they have a child (my mom choped off her long hair once she had kids, so have a few of my friends)

So while it may not be the common thing to have long hair its really pretty and as long as it's properly maintained I bet people are more likly to be jelous of your long hair than think it is outdated.

ETA: The motive for my long hair is Arwen braids too... That and Princess Leia

I am 40 years old and have long blonde hair, so I don't think long hair on women is outdated. I do however think that hair clear down to your bottom with bows and cute scrunchies are way outdated! I suggest you keep your long hair but only to the middle of your back and stop with the braids! Why have long hair if you are just going to put it up all the time. Get an updated long hair cut, like maybe long layers, and throw away the bows!! Good-luck sweetie.

Long hair can be really nice. My hair is a little past my shoulders, and I'm trying to grow it a little longer.

But hair THAT long is pretty dated. If I were you, I'd cut it to a little past your shoulders as well. What's the point of having that beautiful hair if you're keeping it hidden away with a braid (with a scrunchy no less)?

Part of the fun of being a woman is to play around with your hair and show it off a little. Have fun with it. And if you don't like it shorter? Guess what, it'll grow back out.

Well, that's my two cents.

shoulder length is more what I like. Long hair can be annoying or distracting and can look unconfortable on a girl. Shoulder length looks for clean cut and looks you appear more groomed. I dont like hair that is butt length, it is a bit outdated.

Long hair is really nice, espesially if it`s manageable, but personally I think a good length is a few inches below the shoulders.

I think more women are getting tired of having to manage their hair with all sorts of conditioners, getting perms, colors, highlites etc....Try BALD, It's a trend that is slowly getting more popular among women, I mean absolutely shinny, clean shaven BALD.

...I'm Not poking fun at you, this is a serious answer.

i think that a lot of women cut their hair as they get older. i think it becomes more of a matter of convenience than style. i am also in my 30's and i too have long hair. i don't think that it will ever go out of style. it is very feminine. i guess it's just a matter of what works for you.
