Rotties were originally bred to haul "meat wagons" for German butchers.. the crpped tails were for hauling and also incase bandits tried to steal the meat..

No - the only dog's tails that are docked only for 'health reasons' are dogs with severe tail injuries, or dogs who suffer from 'happy-tail': they beat their tails against any nearby object, oblivious to the damage they are doing to their own tail.
dogs who have a de-gloving injury, a broken tail, a tail that has been denervated or the tail's spinal-cord has been crushed, or tails which are NECROTIC or GANGRENOUS, are all cut back to healthy-tissue or wherever the tail still has sensation/function, and the tail is sutured closed.
jerks who try to dock a dog's tail by using a rubber-band cause more agony and sometimes deaths to these dogs/pups, than any other home-made 'medical care' ignoramuses:
these dogs/pups are often picked up with massive infections or blackened, swollen flesh, as the dead tissue of the tail, circulation stopped by the band, releases huge amounts of toxins into the animal's body. it's heartbreaking to see them, weak and sick, when just a short time ago they were healthy and whole.

No. Any docking is done purely for the look of the animal. A rottie with a long tail is just as healthy as a Labrador with its long tail.

I don't know about rott's, but boxer's tails and dobe's tails are really long and whiplike. They break often when wagged against things like doorframes. It's less painful for them and your legs/children's eyes etc for the tail to be docked. The length is totally cosmetic.

It is cosmetic. And in debate with AKC if undocked tails will be a breed norm.
For me, I like my legs without bruises, and Rotties with tails can leave a mark with a wagging tail...LOL Both mine have docked tails. I prefer the look, but at the same time, tails are okay too. They do it when pups are 1-3 days old, they heal fast. Like circumcising baby boys- yeah it hurts like hell, but its over fast, and it isn't traumatizing later in life.

No.....Rotts & Dobes & cockers & poodles, etc, etc.are docked as NEONATES because the BREED STANDARD *CALLS* for it!
Only a cheap, lazy CROOK would NEGLECT to dock *&* remove dew-claws.
It isn't "mean" or "cruel" or any other AR/humaniac/peta-NUTZ LYING "buzz-word".
