I wanted to find out information on gene therapy. I wanted to know how stem cell reaserch and gene therapy are related. Furthermore, how does it affect us today? Example: How much might it affect the economy? Also any websites that are useful are helpful too.

In gene therapy the goal is to introduce a new gene into somethings original DNA. The most effective method up to date is to take a virus, open it up, take out the harmful RNA, and put in the desired RNA. The virus then goes into the cell body and unwittingly acts as a vehicle to send instructions to the genes. It's really amazing when you think about it. Of course there are lots of problems still to be resolved but in the near future it will change everything from health care to the food we eat. I don't know much about stem cell but if you want to know about gene manipulation and the economy read: Lords of the Harvest: Biotech, Big Money, and the Future of Food

What is gene therapy?
Genes, which are carried on chromosomes, are the basic physical and functional units of heredity. Genes are specific sequences of bases that encode instructions on how to make proteins. Although genes get a lot of attention, it’s the proteins that perform most life functions and even make up the majority of cellular structures. When genes are altered so that the encoded proteins are unable to carry out their normal functions, genetic disorders can result.

Gene therapy is a technique for correcting defective genes responsible for disease development. Researchers may use one of several approaches for correcting faulty genes:

A normal gene may be inserted into a nonspecific location within the genome to replace a nonfunctional gene. This approach is most common.

An abnormal gene could be swapped for a normal gene through homologous recombination.

The abnormal gene could be repaired through selective reverse mutation, which returns the gene to its normal function.

The regulation (the degree to which a gene is turned on or off) of a particular gene could be altered.

I surely have a query too touching directly to this. each time we develp a sparkling technological awareness or medical care or something like this that human beings think of is 'enjoying god' the bible and different books frequently arise. yet while god is conscious each and everything, why the hell did no longer he point out something relating to the way biology or physics artwork if he knew we would at last play him as quickly as we progressed technologies to accomplish that? the classic holy books do no longer say something approximately gene medical care or stem cells... or radiation medical care or planned panspermia to different worlds.... so no, he wouldn't have cared. subsequently, we are enjoying god, yet he does not care approximately it sufficient to let us know to no longer.
