I have been coughing SO much from my flu that my voice has finally given up on me. I literally cannot talk, and it gets in the way of life. How long until my voice box will work properly again?
Any suggestions on how I can get it back faster (if there even is a way)
thanks.

I deal with this on a regular basis. Can be from several causes, but the most common reasons for me is 1)sinus drainage; 2) strain from coughing; 3) I've been diagnosed as having a chronic inflamation of the vocal cords to the point of having cracked membranes. Took a visit to a specialist to find this.
Hope it gets better. A soothing help is warm liquids.

Fisherman's Friend are the best throat lozenges, and the apple kind is the best flavour to tolerate.

Try this home remedy: Put a couple of teaspoons of salt in a mug of warm water and gargle. Continue until water is used up.

Try boiling a pot of water and inhale the steam. No scalding, though, in if it makes your breathing uncomfortable, just stop!

And always use lemon (as opposed to milk or cream) in your tea. Even hot water with just lemon has been used for ages for performers to save their voices.

Rest your voice and use a pad of paper and pen whenever possible. I like to use sign language with my family and friends, too, and it might be fun for you to try.

Best of luck, Sniffles!

P.S. I think Paris is upset because you're hotter than she is!

you can always warm up a bit of wine before sleeping, it helps abit, or some honey either with water or some warm honey.

the best thing is to go to a doctor and he/she ll figure out what is wrong.
