he asked me if i had a good christmas and if i got presents and i said yes and he said he got coal wich i doubt because he is a really nice sweet guy why did he say that

Coal for Christmas, huh? Tradition has it that if you've been bad all year that you're gonna get coal in your stocking (hung by the chimney with care) for Christmas. He must be alerting your to his past behavior which even he considers "bad. Why not ask him about it; it will probably liven up the conversation some anyway.
