Registered Nurse here; I'm also a smoker-boo, shame on me. Having said that. Yes cigarette smoking is definitely not good for one. Having been quit for 2 years, I say keep up the good work, on the other hand I still believe in freedom and if you want to smoke the decision is yours. But believe me the first of the year cigarettes went up 10.00 to 12.00 dollars a carton, or at least they did here in Texas, don't know where you live, but if they haven't gone up in your state, maybe I could send you money to buy mine in your state. Just kidding. I think you should stay quit, smoking at any age is not good for you and 65 is not that old, you may very well have 30 years ahead of you.

You are correct about 65 years as being young. Most people live well into their 80's. If you don't smoke for another eight years, your lungs will heal and clear as if you had never smoked. However, at your age you are more susceptible to illnesses such as colds, flu, and many other ailments. Decreased lung capacity, and poor blood circulation are some of the other problems that may arise. If you used to smoke and have been around others who smoke, you have an increased risk of stroke, heart disease, emphysema and asthma. If you have children or grand children (or a wife) who don't smoke, you could be risking their health also! Shall I go on??
As for those who smoke around you, you could ask them politely to go outside to smoke, or at least respect the fact that you are old and would like to live for another year.

Well, health issues aside : times have changed since you were a smoker - it is becoming less and less possible to smoke in public places.. that's why you are seeing so many people - they have to smoke outside! Banned in restaurants, bars, offices, planes - they're trying to even ban cigarettes in prisons!
But, back to the health issue - if you don't care to live - then fine - kill yourself or go off to the woods and die the moment you start to get sick..
But don't subject your loved ones to the agony of watching you die some horrible lingering death like emphysema or cancer.. Don't subject the state to having to pay for your hospital stay (ok, I'm Canadian - i know it probably doesn't work THAT way in the States) - but it's still a waste of money and resources..

Well you are old enough to make your own decision and if you really think you want to begin smoking again after a 2 year quit, it's your perogative.
With all the hype tho about smoking you might get razzed for starting again, by some people.
Hopefully you'll continue to live a full, healthy life whether you decide for certain to start again or not.
Never know tho, you might take that one puff and realize it tastes like crap and you really don't want to start again...
Whatever tho...good luck with your decision/choice

I think you are very foolish. You can develop emphysema which is a living death. Do you want to depend on oxygen and have tubes in your nose all the time? Do you want to gasp for air so that you can't walk and need a wheelchair. My sister in law is your age and that is the situation she is in. She would give the world to be in your shoes.

I think you need to get a life. You can't seriously think anyone on here gives a damn if you smoke or not.
