an MBNA account that I had paid off in 2000. Although I have paid this amount off in 2000 it has the date of last activity as 2003. I keep disputed it with the credit reporting agency. I call MBNA they have no answers. They can't even give me the information. So how do I dispute this?

It says it will be on until 2010... it should be off this year. The last activity was 2000... I would ask my bank for the transfer information but it was summit at that time...is there a way I can get old files from a bank that doesn't exist anymore

The bank may have been Fleet...what happened to Fleet? It was either summit or fleet

Even though Summit doesn't exist, the purchasing Bank (Bank of America) should able to service the account.
On an aside, MBNA is also now owned by B of A

If you have your check as proof that you paid the MBNA account in 2000, mail a front and back photocopy of your check, and a letter, explaining that the bill is paid-in-full.

Send a registered letter to each of the three credit agencies disputing this. It is their responsibility to verify that the information is correct. If they can't verify it within thirty days, it by law has to come off. Most likely, they will find that either you were correct or they won't be able to verify it, in which case it will come off your report.

Maybe you're a victim of identity theft. Other than that, good luck. It seems like there's a million ways for your credit score to go down, and maybe two ways for it to go up.
Basically, get some credit cards, buy a lot of stuff on them, and then pay them off slowly...but pay them back on time. Don't cancel them because your credit score will go down. Also, everytime someone want to look at your credit score (say if you're buying a house or something) it will get dinged as well.
Again, good luck

Write to all three credit reporting agencies about the error. Include your account number, and any information you may have about the dates of the payoff (e.g. check number, copy of your credit statement showing it was paid, copies of the check they cashed when it was paid off, etc.) Ask these credit agencies to investigate, and to please correct the error. I have several friends who have gone through this kind of thing, with favorable results.

If the credit reporting agency doesn't help...I don't know of much you can do except to wait it out.
