Slavery in the bible is different than we know it, it was meant to pay off debt not to actually own a person.
If you carry a debt in society your actually a slave to it in the present day.

Well, considering the fact that Biblical "slaves" had more freedom than modern military members, I would say that slavery is legal. Slaves in the Bible voluntarily sold themselves into a seven-year contract, during which tenure they received free room and board, a salary, and the price of the original contract, not to mention special legal protection.

Why does everybody assume that Biblical "slavery" was like the slavery practiced in the south before the civil war?

Holy Crap - that chick who thinks that the Bible was written by pretentious white men gets my award for "Most Stupid Answer of the Year." Let us know when back to planet earth.

the bible was writen a billion years ago in a time where slavery was okay. its a steady flow of stuff that jesus and the gang were trying to teach us. you know, take it slow. start with love, build it up over the years. now, slavery is bad. and the reason for that is because it is wrong to enslave another creature against thier will. now i don't remember it saying that. i do know it says stuff about servants. i think it means when it say servants is someone who will do something for you because they care. a slave does it because they are forced. i know that if you look it up in a dictionary it will probobly say something different, but im talking about what the bible says, and means.

It also says not to wear clothes made from two different fibres, to exclude lepers from society and not to eat shellfish, amongst other things.

The slavery issue grew as Christians really worked on what the "brotherhood of all Men (and 'Women')" meant in practise.

If we are all Sons and Daughters of God, or have the chance to become one, how can I justify keeping you in slavery. I have to want to treat you as I want to be treated - and I don't like the idea of someone else 'owning me' (employers are a different matter, of course!).

Anything that forces people to do things against their wills is wrong. (Psych hospitals and prisons are a different matter. Prisons are for those who have worked against other peoples' rights.) slavery is a way of forcing people against their will, so it is wrong, if we aim to bring all people together under G-d!

First, you should make the excellence between what slavery grew to become into in Biblical days and what it somewhat is now ... or while it grew to become into criminal interior the States. in the previous i will even start to respond to Your question, you should understand the version. back then, slavery had each and every variety of regulations and regulations to guard the guy who grew to become into the "slave". human beings could sell themselves into slavery for a era of years (the Bible compelled the Hebrews to in basic terms 7 years after awhile) as a fashion to pay off a debt or feed their families. sure, the slaves have been paid. that they had entitlements. there have been limits. variety of like the jobs we carry now lol. The slavery of the black those that grew to become into performed interior the States grew to become into no longer that variety of slavery - that they had no selections and had no entitlements, no limits as to what their proprietor ought to do to them or punishment that ought to be inflicted upon them. And btw, God in no way informed us to prohibit and punish absolutely everyone for their sins, He only informed us what the outcomes could be in Heaven if we did those issues. It applies to us besides, and not distinctly lots homosexuality. i desire I surely have replied your question and made it much less complicated for you. If no longer, be satisfied to touch me, i'm going to describe better.

Slavery is illegal because it's morally wrong. God created everyone equally. He Himself would not support slavery.

God is perfect but the Bible was written by men, and men are imperfect.

Because the Bible was written by pretentious white-men way back when and they had slaves then. The bible says a lot of things and some we've filled in with our taboos. I don't believe everything I read and maybe you shouldn't either.
