illegal immigration proponents is that those who enter the U.S. by breaking the law are invariably "hard-working" and "law-abiding" once they get here.
1. That argument, however, has one major flaw. According to Justice Department statistics and the analysis of immigration experts, the "law-abiding" claim often isn't true.
As Investors Business Daily reported in March 2005:
"The U.S. Justice Department estimated that 270,000 illegal immigrants served jail time nationally in 2003. Of those, 108,000 were in California. Some estimates show illegals now make up half of California's prison population, creating a massive criminal subculture that strains state budgets and creates a nightmare for local police forces."
Citing an Urban Institute study, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies Steven Camorata noted in 2004: "Roughly 17 percent of the prison population at the federal level are illegal aliens. That's a huge number since illegal aliens only account for about 3 percent of the total population."
1. Former California Gov. Pete Wilson places the percentage of illegal aliens in U.S. prisons even higher. In 2001, he told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly:
"We had problems related to the costs of educating children who were acknowledged to be in the country illegally, healthcare costs. One in five in our prison population were illegal immigrants who had been convicted of a felony after entering the country illegally."
The Federation for American Immigration Reform also turned to the Justice Department to get statistics on criminal aliens. They report:
"In March 2000, Congress made public Department of Justice statistics showing that, over the previous five years, the INS had released over 35,000 criminal aliens instead of deporting them. Over 11,000 of those released went on to commit serious crimes, over 1,800 of which were violent ones [including 98 homicides, 142 sexual assaults, and 44 kidnaping].
"In 2001, thanks to a decision by the Supreme Court, the INS was forced to release into our society over 3,000 criminal aliens [who collectively had been convicted of 125 homicides, 387 sex offenses, and 772 assault charges]."
1. Up to a third of the U.S. federal prison population is composed of non-citizens, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons statistics - but not all non-citizen prison inmates are illegal aliens.
As to the "hard-working" claim, CIS notes: "The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 24.5 percent compared to 16.3 percent for native households."
Investor's Business Daily concurs: "Once [illegals] get here, they are 50 percent more likely to be on welfare than citizens."

a pair significant factors right here. First, you won't be able to generalize about an complete inhabitants like this. you won't be able to say all unlawful immigrants are very complicated operating. some will be, some genuinely are not and do not something yet milk the device and recognize a thanks to get each and every thing for loose, that wager who pays for it - taxpayers - thats YOU. 2d, i'm so drained of listening to how human beings rapidly anticipate that illegals take low paying, sub wages. that's complete nonsense and is basically ignorant on how sneaky those each and every man or woman is. those who sympathise with illegals image a nasty mexican immigrant engaged on a farm collecting strawberries, or operating in a terrible pastime at a production unit! that's complete nonsense! I stay in a city the position there are a ton of immigrants - and yeah, no factories or farms everywhere round right here! They artwork in additional desirable paying jobs than you imagine!!! Many are self employed, something from portray, landscaping, unlawful structure and settlement artwork, many artwork in automobile detailing shops, vehicle restore shops, eating places, the list is going on and on. Many even legally own their businesses less than someone elses call (a criminal buddy). In all the circumstances above, they don't pay income or property taxes and remove from competition through both underbidding their expenses, or basically eliminating mainly from their competition interior the first position. i'm so drained of folk assuming that they take those airborne dirt and dirt jobs that no American would opt for besides, that's the most important false impression going!

Yes illegal immigrants are hardworking people. They do the jobs that Americans would not do. How many Americans do you see going out to do domestic work or mowing lawn. These people come into this country to try and make a better living for themselves and their families abroad. You think if they could survive in their own country that they will. The American in this country is the one that hire them to do the work for little or no money because they don't want to pay taxes or benefit for them. Every one is quick to blame illegal immigrant but is American people doing the same thing stealing benefit. committing crimes. Isn't our jail populated by American people doing the same thing that we are blaming illegal immigrant for. Ask yourself how many American people you know that collect welfare check every month because they are too lazy to go out there and get a job. They consider doing domestic work to low for them but what is more low doing a honest day work or collection a check from the government because they are to lazy. If these illegal immigrant was so bad would us American actually leave out most precious cargo (children) to be care and be brought up by them.

I do not care if illegal aliens or good hearted hard working folks, I care about the fact that the law is being broken and that our country is suffering for it. I care about the fact that big box corporations are enabling this behavior by hiring illegals to work for next to nothing rather than offering a fair living wage to legal citizens. I also care about the fact that our current administration does not have a viable plan to rectify this.

He also calls them "poor, honest" people and we KNOW that's a LIE!!!! If they were "honest" they would NOT be sneaking over here ILLEGALLY and STEALING other people's social security numbers!!!!!!
And, evidently they are NOT so "poor" either, since they can come up with $1,200 to $2,500 a pop to pay the coyotes to SNEAK them over here!!!!!!

To Maggie: I only see Americans doing gardening work on million dollar homes in Northern California.
Gardening pays well for most gardeners. Many make several hundred dollars a day.

I worked with two illegal men at a catering company in Oklahoma City. They were the hardest working people there. They could speak limited English but they would always help out even in job tasks that were not their own. When we would get back from a catering job they would be the first ones in the truck helping us unload. While the rest of the kitchen staff sat around smoked, these guys would bust their hump to help us out.

You're being too unfair and intolerant, you should not generalize like that, you're talking about millions of people, what do you think? That inmigrants are not people too, do you think they dont have children, who are also innocent, and who are not guilty of what you're charging among ALL of them? Most of them just come in here looking for a better future for their children, for their families, you dont have a clue of all most of them have to do to get in here, to find a job or a way to support their families. Ok, maybe some of them get in filthy businesses, but do you think that just them form the crap of society? Of course not, there're criminals everywhere, of all races, citizens, residents, illegals, a little bit of everything conform society today. And most of them do the hard jobs American citizens dont want to do, and that's how it works, you like it or not, accept it or not, Inmigrants (legal and illegal ones) have helped this nation to thrive.
It's true, though, that most of them sould have legalized their situation too, but I think that what it should be done with the ones that are already here, push them to get legal, and then dont let more illegals to come, for avoiding precisely more problems like the ones in California and that Arnorld Terminator lol (I prefer not to spell his last name).
Bye and think things better please, with another perspective
Good luck
