Why Can't the Government just set up a law that would make it impossible for the illegals to work here?
Why go building this whole costly fence?

So leticia, your saying that America actually needs illegal immigrants because they benefit from them?

Well Sheri, why don't we just set up a punishment for the people that hire them.
Has America become to dependent of illegals?

white knight, war is seriously not the answer. It will just bring out more hatred in people in later generations. Do you want the streets to look like the one in baghdad? or dead bodies lying in the streets? Mexico can easily just become a suicide militaristic warmonger and be a dangerous country. Its not until you see someone die, that then you don't want more violence. We can resolve this issue if we just enforce the laws better.

Their are laws in place but they are not being enforced. It would also help if US citizens would take a pro-active stance and not hire illegal immigrants to begin with.

A law that will make it impossible for illegals to work here? A situation where everyone who gets a paid job, whatever the level is a bona fide and legal immigrant or citizen. Then that would save so many a lot of frustration and anger at the illegals, coz, probably they wouldn't be here if they cannot survive. That is the ideal position to aspire for.
Now, ideal positions remain just that, ideal. Does anyone know of a law in the books that is so water tight that it never gets broken? That though is not to say that laws shoudn't be enacted and enforced. they should to restrict excesses of human behaviour and relations with others.
How do illegals become so? Some sneak in through the borders and airports, without proper documents. Others come legally, with proper documents, and overstay their invitations. Others come with valid documents but after spinning good tales to the visa officers with the sole intention of getting into the country. After then, they become illegals.
How do they stay so long as illegals? They get help from their friends, both citizens and illegals, from theor relatives, legal or not, employers who need to spend less on labor, have lawyers who find space in the law to defend their stay etc...
Does the government see it as a problem to want it eliminated? Yes, and in so many ways, it intercepts so many would be illegal immigrants before they get into the country, both while still in their hme countries, and at the entry points. There is are also a set of laws to prosecute and remove those who it gets. But it is such a protracted fight between the government and millions of people who are determined to stay in the country, never to go back home for whatever reasons, economic, political, social, etc... So, I do not think that the government has an idea of such a law that it refuses to enact. That law simply isnt there, anywhere in the world. Not even in the fertile imagination of the mind. Only in the ideal.

There are laws against hiring illegal, however, rich, greedy people still hire immigrants to do dirty, dangerous, and undesirable because they are cheap labor. The only way it would work is if the financial penalty for breaking the law outweighs the profit.
have you ever seen a movie called "a day without a mexican"? Brings up some interesting scenarios, but i dont know myself how valid they are. The movie claims the cost of produce, services and construction labor would go too high for our economy to accomodate, and that illegals contribute more than they take.
I dont think a wall will work either. Look at world history....walls just dont work.

I can't say for sure, but I do know that other anti-illegal immigration laws have been passed, and we can all see just how effective the government has been in enforcing the laws already on the books.

Because the government is in Mexico's pocket. All they would need to do is enforce the laws. What they are doing is prosecuting any federal employee who try to do this. Those 2 border patrol agents don't deserve to go to prison for doing their job, I am afraid that they are just the first in a long line of people who will wind up in jail for doing their job and that frightens me.

In my opinion, the fence is a complete waste of money. It'll just make for more profit for the Coyotes (illegal immigrant smugglers). We don't make laws against hiring because immigrants provide a huge source of extremely cheap labor.

It is illegal, sadly not enforced and the fines are not high enough. Besides, too many people want the illegals for cheap labor or for political constituency.

My friend posted this cute 'things to ponder for 2007' thing on a forum, and here's a thing in relation to illegal immigration:
"We know exactly where one cow with mad-cow-disease is located among the millions and millions of cows in America, but we haven't a clue as to where thousands of Illegal immigrants and terrorists are located. Maybe we should put the Department of Agriculture in charge of immigration."
