I have recently come back to Christ after a bit of a hiatus. I've been waffling between the Episcopal and Methodist Churches but have become terribly disenchanted with the U-turn to the left, politically and socially. I'm hoping that by giving a few core beliefs I hold you can help me narrow down the churches worth considering and visiting.

I am...

1.) A conservative Christian. I think God was right: abortion is wrong; the traditional family forms the basis of society; premarital sex is wrong--basically, I need a church with unyieldingly tough morality.

2.) I love liturgy and tradition. It helps, not hinders, a spiritual life in Christ.

3.) I love the simple piety of Methodism. No theological or spiritual fireworks there--the emphasis is faith and decency and this very American way of living in Christ is very attractive.

So, is that wanting too much? What denomination are you? What do you think would fit me best?

How about believing what you believe and go to a Unitarian Church. They welcome everyone, no matter the religion. They celebrate all holidays and respect each person decision to believe as they choose.

The Catholic Church, of course! I am morally conservative but socially more to the left. I believe the government has a big role in caring for the poor and disenfranchised.

Love Liturgy and Tradition? Why not go all the way back to the "original" church....the Catholic Church. Everything else is manmade from the 1500's on.

The simple piety of Methodism is there, alright....but that church is splintered over issues like abortion and gay marriage and/or gay clergy. So are the Lutheran, Anglican, Episcopalian, Presbyterian (and many other) groups.

I go to a Free Will Baptist church where the truth is preached every Sunday and Wednesday by a God-fearing man of God. The messages that he preaches come from God, not from a book or just something made up...if God doesnt give him a message then he doesnt even attempt to preach...We are conservative and very old fashioned and traditional...We have feet washing to humble ourselves like Jesus did and we baptize in the creek beside the church no matter what month it is...could be snowing but it doesnt matter as long as God is in it. We dont have programs to go by to tell us what time to sing or preach or take up the offering, we just let God lead our services...singing, testifying, preaching, shouting and praising the Lord is what happens at our services and you really walk away feeling like you've been to church and that God has been there with you. Feeling the Holy Spirit is the most wonderful feeling in the world..if you havent felt it, you need to find a church that has the Spirit moving in it...not a bunch of cold, dry services that are organized and planned out...We never plan our services, we just let God take control and have His way...

Well, if you like liturgy and tradition in a conservative church you might try the evangelical lutheran. If you want a church that's conservative without internal dogma you might try an independent christian church (not to be confused with disciples of christ, which is liberal).

You coul try Seventh-day Adventists, Southern Baptists, Evangelical churches (especially the more conservative reformed/ Calvinist types), just go to their websites and check out their beliefs or statements of faith etc.

However, instead of focussing so much on what will fit you, try asking God to put you where he wants you to be. It may be in a place you might not expect but it will be the best for you.

Im a fundamentalist Baptist (Aussie), if its not in the Bible i won't believe it, nor if a teaching that is taught that is out of context with other scripture as Old Testement & New Testament shadow each other. Man tries to bring in their ways (likes & dislikes) & laws into church, which is not correct, as God has all ready given as a way to do things in His word !

Become Amish, that way you can get as close to Christ as you want. Christ never drove anywhere or had technology. You should do that.
Personally, to think that God communicated with anyone on this planet, especially to write of book (the Bible) etc, is childish and humorous.
If you think that the Bible is correct, then kill anyone who works on a Sunday as is ok'd in Exodus 35:2, or that you can sell your daughter into slavery Exodus 21:7.

The Wesleyan Church. It has the feel of a Methodist Church but none of the politically correct stuff.

As for mine-I have not decided yet.
As for you-You have to test out different churches and just see what Church is right for you.Visit most of the near-by Churches and see what you find.

I'm a christian, that does not believe in a place called "hell", but i do believe in demons and the devil. I also believe in re-incarnation... I do not judge people who have abortions or pre-marital sex, because I am not God. I do not go to church. But God loves me.
