So I love A-1 steak sauce and I thought I should try my hand at it. I have looked all over Yahoo Answers and haven't found anything on it. Even if you could just read off the ingredients that would be great. Thanks to all of you.

There's no real recipe for A-1 steak sauce (that the people know of) but a really good one that I use ALOT is :

Devil's Steak Sauce

INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons raspberry jam
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons tomato sauce
2 tablespoons malt vinegar
5 drops hot pepper sauce
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS
In a saucepan over high heat, blend raspberry jam, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, malt vinegar, hot pepper sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat, reduce heat to low, and simmer 10 minutes, or until thickened.

I think this might be something that ends up costing you more to buy the ingredients to make it but, hey, if you really want to try....

I just bought a bottle, and the ingredient label reads:
tomato puree
distilled vinegar
corn syrup
salt
raisin paste
crushed orange puree
spices and herbs
dried garlic and onion
caramel color
potassium sorbate (you might not need this if you eat it promptly)
xanthan gum

You might also be able to eliminate the spices, herbs, garlic, onion, and caramel color if you use Worcestershire as a substitute for those things.

Let me know how it turns out, and if it makes your hamburger a steakburger.

Seriously why?

That's like saying, my friend has this really nice Acura, I'm going to see if I can build one myself in the garage.

There are plenty of things you can make yourself. Trying to imitate A-1 steak sauce is a pointless endeavor. You are not going to save money and you are never going to produce something that tastes the same. Even if you could, what would be the point?
