Oh, I don't think caused by, but I know that a lot of people who have mental illness do find some comfort in joining religious groups.
What's wrong with that if they are happy? Live and let live.

Mental illness is not caused by religion. Religion is caused by mental illness.

Delusional disorder is a mental illness. The DSM-IV, however, does not include beliefs that are shared by a large number of people. So if a large number of people are delusional, it is not a mental disorder according to psychiatry.

Not really. Most people are mentally enriched and made whole in their practicing religion. As with all walks of life there are those that become lost.
