Anti does not just mean against. It also means "instead of". There is a high probability that the Anti-Christ will mislead people precisely because he will be an imitator or an imposter of the Messiah, and people will be fooled into following him.

The anti-Christ will pretend to be a Christian, but will be against Him. Very much like the Counterfeit groups today that claim to be Christian churches, but are not.

Not necessarily, in fact the Anti-Christ will probably appear to be very Christian. He will be a wolf in sheep's clothing. After all, his aim is to lead Christians astray, being overtly Anti-Christian is hardly going to fool Christians. Rather, he is going to try and mis-represent Christ through stealth.

Christians follow Christ, so it is logical to assume that he would be anti-Christian because he is anti-Christ.
