Whenever my cat comes into my room she makes a beeline for a shoebox I have and she curls up and sits there. The same is pretty much for any other box we put in front of her. She always jumps right in.
Is there a reason cats like boxes so much? Or do they just do?

It isn't difficult to imagine why cats like being enclosed. They feel snug and protected in smaller, defined places. Cats have a natural need for warmth and protection; their ever-present instinct tells them to be alert to dangers that might sneak up on them when they are dozing. If the enclosure has a top, that's even better.

Some cats like their cat carriers, too, especially if they've had plenty of opportunity to explore them. Place the carrier in a room where your kitty likes to hang out and remove the door, or prop it open. Put treats or favorite toys inside, and let him discover them on his own. If the carrier is furnished with his favorite blanket, the familiar scent will help him to accept it, and you may find him nestled in there when he's ready for a nap. Then when it's time for a visit to the veterinarian, it won't be so scary because he'll be in his "home away from home."

Im not sure why they like it but my cat does the same thing. I think he is pretending that he is hiding becaue when he gets in a box he lays down and stocks some one an attacks them.

Don't know but all of mine do it too. Beer boxes, boxes from new appliances, large shopping bags. They just love them.

I think they like the thought of being stealthy and hiding in a small space, even though they are clearly visible, they think they are being sneaky.

They just do. Mine is the same way. She will also sit in pots, pans and bags. Also when I am cleaning and clean a spot on the floor, like of newspapers, there she is, sitting in the spot. Cats just have a great sense of humor. That's why we love them so much.

I AM A VET!!! Cats feel safe in an enclosed area and love to curl up in tight spaces. My cat does it too, it's just that it makes them feel good!

Cats are very curious and like to inspect/explore almost anything new they come across, and they like to hide in boxes and play in them....Tika(my cat) has her very own box "house" that I made from the box my computer monitor came in...I cut a doorway into it and put one of her fuzzy 'purr padds' inside. She loves it a lot. She even lays on top, like Snoopy on top of his doghouse!

Kind of like dogs and crates. Cat's like the feeling of the cozy little den. Even if it's 10 times too small for them and their hairy little rump hangs over the side. Ha. Too cute.

My cat is like that too. She tries to get into even the smallest boxes. I think it is so that they can feel snug, and secure. They just like that feeling I guess.

My cat likes to try to make a comfy bed in my shoe boxes, but he always ends up breaking the sides because his butt is too big. lol

because boxes are warm and cozy and the cardboard is good scratching material. All in all, irrisitable to cats.
