I would move him now. He might feel secure but he can't sleep in a crib forever. The longer you wait the harder the transition will be.
I wouldn't even do a toddler bed unless I had to. Why not get him a big bed so he can spread out and really get comfy. A real big boy bed might do the trick.
Put it in a corner so that he has a wall on two sides and if you need to put up bedrails.
Just get rid of the crib and then let him know that he isn't allowed to get out of the bed. He will definitely want to test his new found freedom.

Take the crib away so it is not an option. Put him to bed in the toddler bed. Put a gate across the door of the room and go back in the morning. You may find him asleep by the gate on the floor, but he will soon tire of that. If he cries, put him back in bed and start over.

as long as he is happy in his crib and not climbing out i think its OK. Maybe once the time comes to move to his "big boy" bed, take him out shopping to pick out some new sheets for it.

three i sold enough. If you don't do something now to ween him away form it, by the time he is 5 or 6, he'll stil be sleeping in it. to get him out of the bed. If he already has a big boy bed, talk to him and exolain that he has to sleep in it. he will cry. but be strong. a few nights of tears and he'll get used to it. it just takes time.
