Starving is possibly the worst thing to do. Your body will remain in "starvation mode" and digest/breakdown the muscle in your body then the fatty tissues that are integral in other parts of the body [sheaths of nerves and your brain are the two most important].

The answers are all pretty good so far, the proven best way is to increase the number of smaller healthy meals and increase the amount of cardio exercise. Depending on the health of your back and legs, running may do more damage than good. If you increase the amount of uphill walking [the faster the walk the better] and down hill jogging [slow down on this aspect], then you will keep your cardio in the range of burning fat and not building muscle. Also, if you speedwalk, rather than running or jogging, you will work that Sartoris muscle and Gluteus pack much more completely.

Some tips to add to these answers:
1. Drink a glass of water before your meal, because that way you are fulfilling your body's hydration needs and you will eat the right amount instead of overeating. Also, if you feel hungry for a snack, you might just be thirsty, so have a glass of water.
2. Try to stop eating carb-rich foods about 3-4 hours before bedtime. I'm not sure that this has scientific backing, but it sounds like good sense.
3. Build muscle mass so that your metabolism gets a boost. Cardio is important too, but this aspect is often overlooked.
4. I've read that when on a diet, the minimum calories you should get daily is 1,100 so that you don't starve yourself.
5. A good rule of thumb when grocery shopping is to pick mostly foods that have 1g of fiber for every 100 calories.
6. Write down what you eat. That can make you aware of things that you can replace with healthier alternatives. It is also a good way to evaluate your diet so you can make the right choices in the future.

Good luck, and have fun at prom!

starving yourself wont do a thing.. ur body's natural response is to save every calorie that it can when you dont eat enough, which would prevent weight loss.. my suggestion is to find a calculater online that tells you how many calories you need daily (theyre easy to find) and then just decrease that number by about 700-900 calories.. its a lil slow but u have a while before prom anywayz.. and its the best way to diet without gaining the weight back..

Drink water constantly and either ride a bike (depending on where you live) or try some aerobics. Then after that, drink more water! Try to stay around 1,000 calories per day, but only for the amount of time that you really need to slim down.

One of the healthiest ways is to diet and exercise. When exercising warm up for about 2 minutes, sprint for a minute, then jog for about 3 minutes. Continue this routine for about 30 minutes. And always keep yourself hydrated with water. But it doesn't matter what you look like, it matters how you feel and if you have confidence in yourself.

High protein low carbs. Cut out all the starchy carbs: bread, pasta, cereal, rice, potatoes, corn. Try to drink just water. You don't need extra calories and sugar from sodas.
