You are referring to the book of Genesis. Are you actually suggesting that the carefully translated text be adjusted to coincide with your interpretation of reality?

Evolution is still a theory. It may be taught as fact in some schools across the country (just as scientist used to promote the spontaneous generation theory)~ but it is being abandoned by scientist who can no longer sustain a belief that life sprang from non-life (a violation of the most primary of biological laws.) That is why so many former evolutionists are embracing the "intelligent design" model. Of course, many of them find it easier to believe that we are here because intelligent life from someplace else placed us ~ or original DNA ~ here. But this only complicates the issue ~ so where did THAT intelligent life come from?

There are evolutionary creationists who believe as you do. There are literal creationists who believe that a day is a day is a day.

NO. The evening (dark part of day) and morning (light part of the day) were the day. Therefore the days were approximately 24 hours long. (not much would survive a million your night)

First you must realize the the Bible explains itself if you let it. Now the days of creation were outside of any time in eternity and there was no I repeat no nights in creation. Was called the morning and evening of the first day. Also if you read latter in the story you will see the Lamb of God or the Logos or light of God was the very first of creation not the Heavens and earth. This says very plainly Jesus created all things. Again simular words about Jesus saying he is first and creator; Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Now the Bible does teach that a day in Heaven is LIKE 1000 years but it does not say it is such. 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
So God or Jesus Christ created the heavens and earth in 6 thousand years in eternity and time as we know it started at the fall of mankind and we are living right now in the 6th thousandth year of Time and Space about to produce Adam and Eve to the world to rule the world as we know it. Adams name is the Anti-Christ in Bible terms and these are the nights left out of the story in the beginning. But this is Satans world not Gods and Satan is the Power of the Air and the God and Ruler of this world as stated in the Bible; Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Notice how the devil offers Jesus power and authority if he will worship Satan, but Jesus refuses; Matthew 4:8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
