Child support payment is not tax deductible and alimony is.
If your divorce settlement didn't specify exact amount for child support versus alimony, you can try to re-classify the money you gave to your ex as alimony.
However, if the money is deductible to you then it is taxable for your ex. She will have additional tax liability.
Best wishes.

No, child support is not deductible. Why should you get a tax break for something you should be doing anyway?
Child support recipients do not claim the support as income and the senders can not deduct it for credit.
And paying child support doe not automatically give you the right to claim the children. The child is usually claimed by the custodial parent or if it was decided and adhered to the divorce/seperation agreement.

1) you HAVE to claim it. but, its not taxable or a write off.
2) the children, however can be claimed as dependants.
who gets to claim the kids, depends what your divorce (or any other legal court orders) say, as to who can claim the children on their taxes, and who cant. usually, parents take turns. if there is NO document, just know that if you both claim the child(ren) for dependents, the IRS will audit you both.
but all the IRS cares about, is who pays for more then 50% of the child(ren) expenses (between the parents).
here are some links to help w/ more of the tax and child support questions.

No, child support does not count at all when it comes to taxes. Think about it, if you were actually buying items for the child instead of paying cash, it would be subject to sales tax. It wouldn't be a write-off. It seems unfair, but that's the way it works.
