Females can start going into heat as young as 5 months or as old as 18 months. It last 3 weeks, it can get pretty messy, they usually go in heat every 6 months

Get her spayed BEFORE she goes in heat!! She will be much healthier and live longer. Spaying eliminates the risk of reproductive cancers and a very serious often fatal uterine infection, pyometria and it dramaticly reduces the risk of mammary cancer.

Um... dogs don't "go on their period."

It's called estrus, and it's when she's FERTILE. Or "in heat," if you will.

Menstruation, or a "period," in humans typically means that you're NOT pregnant. Estrus in dogs means that they can GET pregnant.

Estrus can last anywhere from a few days to almost two weeks, with the average being about nine days. It typically occurs every seven months or so, although it varies from breed to breed.

Yes, it can be messy.

Best thing to do when this happens is LOCK HER UP.

SPAY early; you'll never have to worry about it.

They also have lil diapers that you can put on them if your pet is an indoor pet.. they may not like it but it will keep the blood off the furniture.
