McAfee and Norton both are system resource hogs. Unless you have a decent processor and plenty of RAM on your PC it wll slow you down. It typically needs about 70M Bytes of RAM to run.

I used to buy Norton Systemworks every year for about the last 10 years. I quit spending the $80 a year and I've opted for AVG Antivirus which is free.

AVG has prevented several malicious invasions from happening. I would recommend you give it a try. AVG only needs about 5M of RAM to operate. That's a vast difference from McAfee or Norton.

AVG is FREE and is available from the following sites.

http://www.grisoft.com
http://www.download.com

The only caveat I would make is that you should get a good spyware program and have that running also. I would recommend Spy Sweeper if you are willing to purchase it. It only cost about $30 for the first year and $19.95 each year after that.

Hope this helps.

Putting it in the recycle bin will not work ;)
You need to disable it in McAfee itself or just uninstall is. McAfee is known (as well as Norton is) to lag PCs. Plus, they find a very low percentage of malware considering how popular they are for some reason. (Use Trend Micro's PC-Cillan)

click start run and type msconfig then click the startuptab

uncheck macafee and reboot macafee won't load on start up . Just check the check box in the warning window that pops up after the restart and click ok.

Puting it in your recycling bin wont do anything, your best bet is to uninstall it and then reinstall it.
