People bought me lots of tops for Xmas all of which I hated. I said I loved them but they were itchy and I'm allergic. I will exchange every one but am I horrible?

No, you are not horrible. Why keep something that you cannot wear?

You did the right thing by thanking people for the gifts they gave you.

No you are not, you just didn't want to hurt anyone feels. However I'd do the same thing, if the tops are itchy and you are allergic to them them you might as well exchange them otherwise they will just sit in your wardrobe gathering dust. However just in case it falls back on you it might be wise to mention to the people that brought you the tops that although you loved them. You did have to exchange them because you were allergic, just in case they decide to buy you something similar for your birthday or next Xmas

You have no control over what other people buy to give you, unless they asked you what you wanted. And even then, they sometimes ignore you! You might want to casually let people know that you're allergic to whatever material causes the problem, to avoid them spending money on something you're just going to have to exchange. They can't be expected to know an intimate detail like that unless you tell them.
You feel guilty because you enthused over something that you don't want. Only if you *already* knew you wouldn't be able to wear it, would it be dishonest to say you "loved" the top.
It's a lot easier to open it and say, "It's pretty, but I'm so sorry--I'm allergic to wool" or whatever it is.

No poppy, you have no need to feel guilty. I was raised that the one time dishonesty is okay is when we are preserving other's people's feelings.
In my opinon you were showing good taste and consideration. Now I hope you go on and exchange for what you want and feel no guilt about it at all.
Besides, wouldn't you feel more guilty if you had made others feel badly because you were honest about your allergic reactions...

P.S. Before next Christmas you might let others know that you have "discovered your allergy" and let them know the types of cloth you can wear.

Because you are a caring person. Most people who have a good heart with fill guilty about small stuff. Don't feel bad about it, you our doing yourself a favor and to the people who bought you the clothes. I am sure they would want you to exchange the clothes if they didn't feel right. It is a small thing so don't worry. The fact is that you feel bad about something that is not that big of a deal which means you our a good person. peace

Well Poppy Vox (what a cool and interesting name), you are not horrible at all.

1. People expect you to do exchanges.
2. If they ask why you are not wearing them, you have the best excuse that you DID love them and wished you could keep them, but had the allergy.
3. You gotta do what you gotta do.

I have no problem with women taking off their tops.

Just because you didn't like a gift doesn't mean you are a bad person, don't worry. I'm sure you were perfectly polite when you recieved them and It isn't like you have no reason to take them back. They made a mistake in buying you something you cannot wear, any guilt is unreasonable, don't worry about taking them back. Use the money to get yourself something you love and think of those people every time you use it.

No. I usually return most of the clothes I receive as gifts. Sometimes other people just don't know your style or what you like. Saying thank you and you loved it is not a terrible thing. Go buy/exchange something you'll like and use. It's still a gift, you just modified it.
